Good mental health care rarely rests with one practitioner

A client's care often involves several people: you, their GP, and at times a psychiatrist or paediatrician. That network works best when the people in it know each other, share information and can be reached when they're needed.

  • When you know a specialist's approach, it's easier to talk the option through with a client.

  • Long waits for in-person psychiatry can leave part of a client's care on hold. National Medicare data published last year puts the average wait at 77 days.

  • When letters don't come back, everyone supporting the client is working from partial information.

  • Clients in regional and remote areas often have the fewest options close to home.
